BRYCE VALLEY

Bryce Valley is located in the heart of scenic Southern Utah. Bryce Canyon National Park borders our communities on the west. The Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument is to the East and South, while the Dixie National Forest is to our North. Kodachrome State Park is a hidden treasure tucked into a mountain side just south of Cannonville. These attractions provide for abundant outdoor activities. Anything from hiking, to horseback riding, to ATV tours, to fishing, to photography, and more are nothing but extraordinary because of the natural beauty of the area.

KODACHROME STATE PARK

Kodachrome State Park is a beautiful place full of red rocks, scenic vistas, short hikes, serenity, and a quiet peacefulness. Located 9 miles south of Cannonville, Utah, Kodachrome State Park is a popular destination as it provides front door access to the Grand Staircase Escalante Monument (inlcuding the Paria River and Cottonwood Road access points). This park is designed beautifully in a way that allows you to enjoy the sixty-seven monolithic stone spires called sedimentary pipes. Guided horseback rides are available from Red Canyon Trail Rides.

BRYCE CANYON NATIONAL PARK

Start your day by hiking into Bryce Canyon National Park right from the Town of Tropic. The east entrance (hiking access only) begins just up the road from edge of town. You can access many of the trails from this location, included the popular Navajo Loop. Or visit the Bryce Canyon Mossy Cave stop along Highway 12, located several miles north of Tropic. Click here for a detailed map of this hike.

DIXIE NATIONAL FOREST

The Dixie National Forest occupies almost two million acres and stretches for about 170 miles across southern Utah. It straddles the divide between the Great Basin and the Colorado River. The Forest is divided into four geographic areas. High altitude forests in gently rolling hills characterize the Markagunt, Pansaugunt, and Aquarius Plateaus. Boulder Mountain, one of the largest high-elevation plateaus in the United States, is dotted with hundreds of small lakes 10,000 to 11,000 feet above sea level.

GRAND STAIRCASE ESCALANTE NATIONAL MONUMENT

The Bryce Valley area is also adjacent to the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. Some great things to see in the monument include:
Willis Creek, Bull Valley George, Lick Wash, Grosvenor Arch, Cottonwood Narrows, Hackberry Canyon, Round Valley Draw, Paria River, and many many more.
For more information about the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, the Visitor Center is located at: 10 Center St, Cannonville, Utah 84718. Phone: 435.826.5640

CALF CREEK RECREATIONAL AREA

About 15 miles east of Escalante, Scenic Byway 12 descends to the Calf Creek Recreation Area. Here, wade in the creek, have a picnic, or take the 5.5 mile round-trip nature hike to Lower Calf Creek Falls. The sandy trail ends with water cascading 126 feet from the rock walls above into a pool surrounded by shade trees. Calf Creek Recreation Area also has a BLM campground and a picnic area.
